Why good Oral Health is crucial for your pupper: My journey with Teef for Life and tips for keeping your puppers teeth clean!

As a dedicated motherpupper (Aka: dog mom), I've come to appreciate just how important oral health is for our puppers. Since May, back when I started the 30 day challenge with Polo, I've been using Teef for Life, an oral treatment designed for dogs and cats, and the results have been nothing short of impressive. Today, I want to share my journey and offer some tips on how you can maintain your puppers's oral health too.

First of all… why Teef for Life? I came to know about Teef for Life back in March when we visited Global Pet Expo in Florida. I was very intrigued by the science behind it and how they call it SMMRT™ which is: Selective Microbial Metabolism Regulation Technology. Basically, not ALL bacteria is bad! This technology was developed in 2008 and uses nutrients that stop harmful bacteria from consuming sugars and carbohydrates and switch them to eating protein and amino acids. This approach focuses on using nutrients to influence WHO lives in the oral microbiome and shifts microbes from bad behaviors to beneficial behaviors that ultimately create an improved oral environment that decreases inflammation, acid production and smelly by-products, resulting in an improved quality of life for our pets.

Why is all of this important in a dog?

Dental hygiene isn’t just a human concern—it’s crucial for our puppers as well. Poor dog oral health can lead to lots of problems, including bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease, and even more severe health issues like heart disease or kidney problems. Dental disease can cause our pets to lose up to 1/3 of their lifespan! Regular dental care can help prevent these issues, ensuring your puppers stays healthy, happy & live longer.

My Experience with TEEF For LIFE…

One of the reasons I decided to try this product and do the 30 day challenge with Polo, who is approximately 4 years old, is because compared to my other senior dog, he has always has had bad breath and lots of tartar development on his teeth. I adopted him when he was a year old after living in the streets (not the best quality of life or nutrition) and I wanted to take action for his well being. In May, I started incorporated TEEF for LIFE into my dog's daily meal for 30 days and the results have been fantastic thus far. Before I started the challenge I did an Oral Microbiome Health Test gifted by DoggyBiome  when I got the results it said that Polo had a mild to moderate oral microbiome inbalance when compared to those on healthy dogs, including  some low or higher end group of bacteria compared to healthy dogs. His “Richness” which is a count of the number of different kinds of bacteria found in a sample was LOW when in general, microbiomes with greater “Richness” levels are healthier.

This is how Polo's teeth looked on April 30th, 2024 when I got the sample for the microbiome test. On the right image you can see the initial results showcasing a low richness level.

This oral treatment, which you can easy use by adding to your dog’s water bowl daily, their food bowl or even use directly with your dog’s toothbrush is designed as a natural approach to growing the good bacteria needed for great dental health and fresh breath.

Since starting with this product, I've noticed a significant reduction in Polo’s bad breath, which means more pupper kissses and an improvement in my dog's overall dental health after my vet’s evaluation. The tartar he already had, has become softer and easier to remove by brushing and I have not seen any more tartar build up since. After finishing the 30 day challenge I went ahead and did another Oral Microbiome Health Test gifted by DoggyBiome and the results after 30 day was impressive. Not only did I have already noticed those physical changes I described earlier but his Porphyromonas levels (which is a bacterial strain that is a main contributor to dental & gum disease in dogs) went waaaay down and his "Richness" went waaaay up. TEEF ended up growing good bacteria and helped increase his ecosystem health according to the test results.

As you can see by the image, Polo's teeth have significant less tartar on them (they look less black on the top) and his richness level have increase!

What other stuff do I do to compliment TEEF for LIFE as a daily treatment and promote my dog’s healthy teeth?

While TEEF for LIFE has been a game changer in taking care of my puppers oral health and has made a noticeable difference, it's essential to complement it with other good dental habits. For example:

1. Regular Brushing: Brushing your puppers's teeth is one of the most effective ways to prevent plaque and tartar build-up. Not gonna lie, I can be extremely lazy with this step. I try to do it at least 2-3 times a week but sometimes more days go by without me doing it. That’s why I love using TEEF. It’s so easy to use and implement as a daily habit and if you are consistent the results are amazing. **Remember you can use TEEF for LIFE directly when brushing your dog’s teeth instead of dental paster for dogs.

2. Dental Chews: Natural chews are great for promoting oral health. They help reduce plaque and tartar through mechanical abrasion. I specifically love to give my puppers (which are 15 – 17lbs) dehydrated chicken or duck feet weekly. Not only are they a natural, single ingredient treat but they also have extra benefits by providing collagen and glucosamine. 3. Professional Cleanings: Just like with humans, regular professional cleanings by a veterinarian are important. These cleanings can reach areas that brushing and chews might miss and can address any underlying issues that might not be visible.

4. Regular Vet Check-Ups: Ensure your dog has regular vet check-ups, during which your vet can examine your dog’s teeth and gums for any signs of trouble. Early detection of dental issues can prevent more severe problems down the road.

5. Healthy Diet: A balanced diet contributes to overall health, including dental health. High-quality dog food can support healthy teeth and gums, so choose a diet that's rich in essential nutrients & protein.

Good oral health is a vital aspect of your puppers’s overall well-being. Since incorporating TEEF for LIFE into my Polo’s routine, I’ve seen remarkable improvements. So much improvement that I started using it with my other senior dog as well. He is already 10 years old and putting him under for a dental cleaning is not recommended so I would like to prevent his oral health to be an issue in the long run. I highly recommend it to other dog moms who want to give their puppers the best dental care possible.
